On December 19 and 20th, Interlagos autodrome in São Paulo (Brasil) hosted
the 2nd Grand Prix Brasil de Skate Slalom e Speed. Unlike the 2007's
contest, there were two competitions going on the raceway that decided 2008
Formula 1 championships, slalom and speed downhill.
The location on the raceway was on the Descida do Lago curve, much steeper
than the previous year's location. Being so, this was a waaaaay faster spot
than the other one, so much so that the hydrid slalom contest was simply
cancelled as the competitors were going so fast that no tight section was
made possible... So giant they went!
Some of the earth's top slalom riders went to Interlagos for the contest.
World Champion Dominik Kolwalski showed his reputation on the race and won
the slalom contest hands down, but not without having to sweat his wheels
off in order to make it ahead of Greg Fadell who's arrived only a few inches
behind him. Jojo Linder got 3rd and the local Brazilian road runner Kako Max
got fourth. Kako is the Brazilian slalom champion for the 2nd time in a row,
which will even allow him to cash a monthly government sponsorship sallary
for the year.
Speed racers on the track, it was time for Douglas Dalua to show his own
local reputation and add another 1st place trophee for his impressive
collection. He's showing his amazing skills contest after contest, proving
that his unofficial speed world record wasn't just a matter of chance; just
for the records, he went as fast as 132 km/h (82 mph) in 2007. Too bad
that the Guinness guys couldn't be present to witness history being made,
bringing on some kegs with them as well...
Oh, by the way: 2009's GP Brasil is already scheduled for July 8th and 9th,
a local holidays in São Paulo. Make your arrangements for your vacation
month and just don't forget to bring your sweatshirts, beanies, gloves and
all as it'll be winter time down here. It may sound as a joke for all North
Hemisphere skaters out there, but temperatures which range from 8 to 15
degrees Celsius are regarded as WAY F#*%ING COLD in a country like ours.
Don't you dare to run shirtless; as Birdo himself could've said, just don't
do it.
