Now that the ITTF speed glue/booster/tuner ban has well and truly kicked in, players have had time to experiment a little and adjust their equipment.
So now seems like a good time to ask - what are you doing now that there is no glue for you? (By the way, you can choose more than one option.)

A New Year, and New Questions! Photo © 2008 Greg Letts, licensed to About.com, Inc.
Hope you all enjoyed your holidays, and are keeping your resolutions! Now it's time to dip into my mailbag (well, my email Inbox anyway) and see what people are asking this year.
When can a player change his racket during a ping-pong match?
How far away should you stand from the table?
How does the clock face method of hitting a table tennis ball work?

You put your left foot in... Photo © 2006 Greg Letts, licensed to About.com, Inc.
It is often difficult for table tennis beginners to learn to use the correct footwork. At the beginning, you can get away with poor footwork since it is not the most important part of the game. But as you get better having good footwork becomes more and more important, until it is an essential component of the game in advanced play.
Rather than starting out the wrong way and picking up bad habits that are hard to get rid of later, I'll give you some simple tips that will put you on the right track for the future.

Testing times ahead... Photo by Raul Calin, by courtesy of the ITTF
The ITTF has just released two new documents, explaining the procedures to be followed for the testing of rackets in events adopting the full ITTF Regulations for International Competitions.
Although a bit of a dry read at times, the two documents do explain how the ITTF plans to integrate racket testing into its events, with the Racket Control - Directives of Procedures document detailing the practical steps to be taken during an event, among other things. The second document, Racket Control - Technical Leaflet T9, covers much of the same ground, but also includes an interesting explanation of the enez testing device, as well as diagrams, pictures, and explanations of the various devices used to test rackets for irregularities such as glossiness, maxium thickness, and unevenness. Another interesting inclusion is the duties of the Chief Racket Controller.
While not always Harry Potter material, nonetheless these documents are worth taking a look at - they are going to shape the direction of table tennis racket testing in the years to come. Ignore them at your own risk.
